Nikon D70

The Nikon D70 is a great entry-level DSLR, but now discontinued in favor of the D80.

It has everything the amateur photographer needs, and it makes a great low-cost spare for a pro.

It's only 6MP, but that is still plenty to get good shots, as long as you compose well so you don't have to crop too much.

As an amateur camera it has plenty of automatic modes to help you get good shots.

The downsides of this camera lie in the quality - it's only rated to 40,000 shutter actions, and mine is starting to fail at 35,000.

Additionally, there appears to be a software glitch on mine - when in flash commander mode, occasionally a shot comes out like this:

D70 weird colors

That said, the commander mode isn't great anyway - there's so much lag that you feel like you're using a point-and-shoot.
